What is the position of those indifferent persons who have termed our opinion „simple motherly worries” – that is, superfluous, exaggerated, and ridiculous? When trouble comes experts usually speak about “complex, accidental and unique interrelation of unknown factors”. They are right in saying so: our life is (hopefully) not a controlled study where certain effects of isolated factors can be „verified” or falsified. Science and technology are not in the epistemological position to take every possible effect into consideration and one can not expect the experts to react adequately to the risks they themselves create. They have become their own judges just as the Ministry of Defence while getting the building permit.

The Czech Republic and Hungary are members of European Union. But what should be the objective of the united Europe? It’s definitely not the formation of new and larger institutions that would concentrate the power in the hands of a small group of people. Europe should become a place where people have the power to make decisions and different groups and organizations can continue in their activities and join together to work on common issues.
We have to cooperate to form a new Europe. And in such a new Europe it will be totally impossible to build radar above Pecs.

Greenpeace supports the efforts of CMM to convince the Ministry of Defense to take into account the environment and the local population, and not build the planned radar station on the Tubes. If the radar must be built, then let it be built in a location which is approved by independent experts, agreed to by the local people, and where the damage to the environment is the least possible.

CMM organized in 2005 with the shocking news that a high-powered NATO radar was to be built on the Tubes, a few hundred meters from family homes. At the Democratic Greens conference it was said that CMM has become the strongest environmental movement in Hungary since the Duna Kör (Danube Circle). It’s true that we made history.

| UNARMED FORCES DAY IN PÉCS |
|
We call on everyone who has stood in support of the Zengo and the Tubes thus far, and we call on those 40,000 citizens of Pécs who voted against the radar in the referendum to come and show their support again in opposition to a NATO radar in Pécs and against militarism in general. We call also upon those who are not citizens of Pécs but feel they must stand against such military development, be they directly affected or not. Particularly we call on the young people of Pécs, to take part in this demonstration to sjow your support, even though you may not be a voter yet in Pécs.
